Event Overview

The event has a force cap of 100 CS infantry and a maximum of 15 cavalry, and 100 US infantry and a maximum of 15 cavalry. Make careful considerations about attending by understanding the following:

  • This is not a tactical. The event will utilize tactics associated with the ACW in a realistic setting and scenarios, but it is not all unscripted, force-on-force. Some of you may never see the enemy.

  • This is a 36-hour immersive event. While the object is to try and conduct this in first-person where able, we fully realize that first-person is not for everyone, nor can it be mandated or forced upon people (many don’t like it, feel it is too difficult, forced, or just silly) but please respect those who are trying and stay off of modern topics, etc, in order to better establish a period environment for everyone. We can’t control everything, to include overflights of jet aircraft, a modern building, etc., but that which we can influence should be by all participants.

  • Once you leave the parking area Friday evening you will not return to your car until the event ends on Sunday morning. Obviously, emergency requirements will be honored, but you should be able to live out of your knapsack and haversack as a Civil War soldier for 36 hours. If you feel you can’t do this or are intimidated by the idea, perhaps this event isn’t for you.

  • If you are expecting a large-scale powder burner, manage your appetite for that by understanding the parameters of this event. The object is to conduct solider life along the line and, like real soldiering, you might be involved in a contact, you might not. You may fire many rounds or none at all. You may hear an action and not be a part of it, further wondering what happened and if you will become involved. That is all part of the experience.

  • You will arrive with 40 rounds in your cartridge box and 20 in your knapsack. Some of you may use half of the rounds you have over the course of the weekend and others may not fire a shot save the one you load at the start of the event and fire once we clear muskets at the conclusion.

  • This event will start with a ration issue. It is what you will have for the weekend save some augmentation as available (some surprises are in store, in other words). While it isn’t a “flat haversack” event, you will be moving frequently and need to plan meal preparation accordingly.  You can augment what you want, but you will get a soldier’s issue to start and that is going to be about it for the entirety of the event.

  • Water will be provided for each side and part of your event fees are going to cover water for the weekend. Arrive with a full canteen, however.

  • You will be busy and tired by the end of the weekend.  The amount of patrolling, duties and other sundry tasks associated with Outpost duty will keep everyone suitably engaged. This includes changing out pickets and guard rotations in the middle of the night and morning stand-to. You will spend time on and off the line, cooking, resting, playing cards or other pastimes, and when you are on duty will have plenty to occupy your time in improving your positions and making arbors, etc.  Come to this weekend with a good attitude and ready to work hard.

  • We want everyone to have a great time and get something out of this weekend that extends past expectations. We are planning a great event and your participation and enjoyment are paramount. However, we will also conduct this safely and your adherence to the safety guidelines is non-negotiable.
